Mila: A perfect Example of Trusting the Process
Mila is the perfect example of trusting that there is a family out there for every dog or cat we rescue. Sometimes we worry, but so far (5.5 years of operations), the right person/family comes along and the magical connection occurs (or something like that).
Mila came to the Bow Valley SPCA in August 2008 and stayed with us until June of 2009. We took her for a neurological exam because she has a peculiar gait and was very sensitive to being touched on her back. It turned out that she had some brain damage and was partially blind ( a congenital condition). She was a very affectionate dog but because of her vision she paced in her room and often eliminated there. As we walked her and worked with her she seemed to progress, but she never quite settled in the way that other dogs do. Then along came her new person--to be. She was interested and asked to be given some time to prepare her house for Mila. On June 6, 2009, Mila left the shelter. We stayed in touch with her guardian and the updates were all hopeful. Mila quickly adapted to her new home. She was able to get around the house and always went outside to do her business. She did have a bit of a problem with seizures for a while but that is now under control.
Here is the email from her person.
Btw, we've got her on some additional meds, so she hasn't had a seizure since last April. Also, she's taking a type of doggy aspirin, which seems to help with the pain in her back legs. She practically runs marathons now! Hard to believe she'll be 7 this June :)
