Family Life: add one kitten and...

Introducing to the world our fur babies Licorice (black cat) and Chantilly (white cat).
Licorice came into our lives life when my husband and I were house hunting. As anyone can imagine, buying a house is very stressful so when I was at the BVSPCA one evening, and noticed an adorable litter of kittens, I decided to foster one for a little while to help calm our nerves. I knew my husband loved black cats so when Licorice looked up at me from sitting quietly in the corner, I knew she was the one for the job. Little did I know that we would fall in love and decide to keep her. (This is all despite the fact that at the time we were living in staff accommodations and technically not allowed pets - whoops!). Finally we made it through and moved into our new condo where Licorice promptly discovered all the best hiding places (inside the wall was my personal favorite).
As a kitten Licorice was quiet but playful. Now she has grown into our little black beauty, but as an adult, she is not quite the timid little girl she used to be. She is very vocal about wanting food (pretty much all the time). She will do anything necessary to get cheese (including stretching her entire body out until she is on her tip toes with her paw almost touching the kitchen counter top). She also loves chasing rolled up balls of paper around the house (at all hours of the day & night of course).
After a few months went by, in our minds, any good cat needs a sidekick - here enters Chantilly. Once we made the decision to get another cat, we knew the BVSPCA was the only place to go. My husband really wanted a white one to match the black one. The adoption centre manager mentioned a very small white cat in the back room with her surrogate mom that had not even been posted on the website yet. The moment we went back there we were in love. Chantilly is quite simply the prettiest cat we had ever seen (and no need to ask her, she knows how beautiful she is).
From kitten to adulthood Chantilly was trouble with a capital C. She has so much energy that she runs around the house constantly. She loves fresh air - whether she is outside on the porch lounging or squeezing her little head into the tiny crack the window is open. Chantilly also enjoys people food... everything except for fruits and vegetables of course. She even took off running under the bed once with a whole McDonalds cheeseburger in her mouth (it was still int he wrapper by the way). There is never a dull moment in our house with Chantilly around, but the loving relationship we have with her, we could not live without.
This past year we welcomed a new baby into our lives and were just thrilled when all three got along so well. One of the pictures I posted is of all three of my babies snuggled into our king size bed. (With just a small corner left for me of course). I am so excited for our son to grow up with two very loving pets and none of that would have happened with a wonderful organization like The Bow Valley SPCA who helps bring families together. There is no greater gift in life then giving a pet their forever home.
