Doggie ambassador for the Bow Valley SPCA visits school

On Tuesday, May 12, 2015, Grade 4 Students at École Notre-Dame des Monts in Canmore had a special visit from Creed, an eight-year old German Shepherd, along with his owner Pam Doyle, a volunteer with Bow Valley SPCA, and Roberta Richardson, an outreach educator with the Bow Valley SPCA. Creed was the first successfully adopted dog from the Bow Valley SPCA after they opened their doors in 2007. He was found at six months of age, running at the side of the road.
Through Richardson’s presentation and a question and answer session, the students learned the importance of having your dog well mannered and socialized with people and other dogs. A confident dog is a safer dog in the community. Creed is well trained in basic manners and enjoys taking scent tracking classes with Pam, who is a local Photographer in the Bow Valley.
Students learned that resident dogs at the BVSPCA are taught basic manners through positive association and reward training. Volunteers treat each animal with respect and as an individual.
Creed, who is a member of the Education Team at Bow Valley SPCA, received the love and respect of the students. He enjoys teaching students how to approach a dog safely.
