Adoption Centre Manager Sonya White sent this report about the exceptional care provided by Dr. Diez at CARE.

As a person whose family consists primarily of dearly loved animals AND as the manager The Bow Valley SPCA, I am in the position of experiencing the compassionate care of the CARE Centre Animal Hospital in Calgary both personally and professionally.

I was first referred to Dr. Diez when my veterinarian here in Canmore suspected that my little Pug had a genetic condition called pug dog encephalitis. She had a seizure that scared me and broke my heart because her prognosis was not good at all. When I arrived at the CARE Centre for our consult with the neurologist, I was very emotional. Dr. Diez was very kind and compassionate. He spent a lot of time with me and Maddie as he explained what was going on in her body and what he needed to do to fix it. He gave me hope that the prognosis wasn’t as grim as first thought and that she could live a normal life with her family. She needed to have an MRI in order to diagnose her condition and start the proper treatment plan. I was very worried about Maddie but Dr. Diez reassured me that it was his job to worry and my job to love her and keep her life as normal as possible- I could happily do that! I was thrilled when the MRI results were normal and Maddie was diagnosed with general epilepsy- a condition we can treat and manage just fine. This was the best news I could have received!

A short time later, a sweet little orphaned border collie named Lady arrived at the BVSPCA. We noticed she had a funny sort of walk and sometimes tilted her head to the side. We were concerned that she might be in pain but our veterinarians ruled out any sort of physical issues. It was recommended that she have an MRI at the CARE Centre to find the source of the disability. We wanted to be able to tell potential adopters exactly what sort of care she would need in order to have a happy life. It was also important to know if this was a condition that would progressively deteriorate over time or if she would remain her wonderful little self! We went to see Dr. Diez and once again he kindly explained her potential issues. He very generously offered us a compassionate discount for the procedure. He knew she was a special little dog and he wanted to see her find a great home! He offered to meet with her new family and answer any questions they might have. Once again, we were blessed with good news! The MRI was normal and Lady was given the all clear to move into her adopted home-which she did six days later!

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you Dr. Diez, as well as many thanks to your kind nurses- Erin and Melissa, for helping two beautiful little souls who started out as shelter dogs with potentially serious health issues to become the thriving adored family dogs they are now!
