A Tribute to Hector

On Wednesday, March 11, the Bow Valley lost one of its oldest and best loved dogs, Hector, at the age of 18 1/2.

Hector was a sled dog who had spent the last three years of his life living out a very happy retirement with Kaoru Iwata (a former musher) and his wife Akiko. Hector was well-known at the Quarry Lake off leash park and could be seen every day (whatever the weather!) being walked by the loving and devoted Kaoru and Akiko.

We best remember Hector for leading us off in the Mut Strut last year—surely one of the more senior competitors in any race in the valley! Hector is a testament to how adopting an older dog can be such a rewarding and fulfilling experience.
