Supply Donations
If you wish to donate physical/material goods, we accept a donations of pet food and new/gently used pet items. Donated supplies are used in-Centre, or if we are unable to use them for our residents they are sold at the Shed Shop, the funds of which return to the Centre.
In addition to accepting donations, we have specific items that we need to regularly replenish in the Centre. Check out our Centre Wish List.
What Can I Donate?
We accept donations during our public visiting hours (Wednesday to Saturday from 12:00pm to 4:00pm).
Please review the list of items we accept, as well as donation guidelines. If you are unsure about an item you have, please Call Us to check.
We Accept:
- New & Lightly Used Dog & Cat Supplies
- While we are grateful for all donations, we cannot use dirty, soiled or damaged items. A good way to think about it is: "Would I let my pet use this?"
- Dog/Cat Food & Treats (in original packaging)
- We accept all brands of dog and cat food, wet or dry. (No raw, frozen or refrigerated)
- Food must be in it's original packaging: this ensures that we know what we are feeding to our residents and we can check the expiry.
- We cannot accept expired food: please check before donating.
- We cannot accept treats with peanut butter to staff allergies.
- Most Veterinarian Medication
- Medications must be in their original packaging or a veterinarian labelled container that clearly displays the name, strength and expiry date of the medication.
- We cannot accept refrigerated medication or controlled drugs.
We Cannot Accept:
- Linens, Towels, Bedding
- Due to a generous influx and limited storage space we are currently not accepting linens.
- We do not accept fitted sheets.
- Check with veterinarian clinics, the Cochrane or Calgary Humane Societies or your local thrift store to donate.
- Small Animal, Exotic or Bird Items
- We only accept dog and cat supplies.
- Check with Calgary Humane Society and Cochrane Humane Society to donate.
- Dirty, Soiled or Damaged Items
- While we are grateful for all donations, we cannot use dirty, soiled or damaged items.
- All donations are accepted and used with the safety of our animals in mind. Please check donations for anything that could be hazardous to a pet.
- Raw, Frozen or Refrigerated Food/Treats
- Due to lack of space and sanitary concerns, we are unable to accept these type of food donations.
- Bones, Antlers or Rawhide
- We are unable to accept these due to the high risk of broken teeth, gastric blockages and other health complications common to using these items.
- Peanut Butter (ingredients or flavouring)
- Due to staff allergies, we cannot accept ANY item or product that has peanut butter (flavouring or ingredients)
- Refrigerated or Controlled Medication
- While we accept most veterinarian medication, we are unable to accept medication that needs to be refrigerated or is a controlled prescription.
- Please ask your veterinarian for proper disposal instructions.
- Human Prescriptions or Medical Supplies
- We are legally unable to accept any medications prescribed for human use.
- Please ask your doctor or pharmacist for proper disposal instructions.
- Used Syringes or Needles
- This is a health hazard and we don't have the ability to dispose of them.
- Please speak with your doctor, pharmacist or veterinarian for proper disposal instructions.
- Human Clothing or Accessories
- Even if these are pet-themed, we don't often have use, or space, for these items.
- Please check with your local thrift store.
- Beanie Stuffed Animals / Toys
- As cute as these are, we are unable to give them to our dogs or cats as there is a risk the beads may be ingested and cause medical complications.
