About Odie

We are pleased to announce that Odie was adopted on Dec. 12, 2024
Odie has been a visitor, volunteer and staff favourite since he arrived. With his unique eyes, smart-as-a-whip intelligence and strong purrsonality, Odie has left his mark at the Bow Valley SPCA. While a cuddle bug and big ol' softie deep down, there were moments where Odie let us know that he wasn't truly happy at the shelter, and that he missed the comforts of a home life and his own people. It took some time to learn that his outbursts were nothing more than frustration at having to share attention and affection with other cats, and a desire to put his intellect to use. We gave him a puzzle feeder for his meals and started clicker training, and he mastered them both quickly, and loved it! And with this extra stimulation, his frustration levels decreased remarkably. We knew that in a home, he would become his best self. What can we say? Odie is a special boy, and we were thrilled when his new family came in and saw the same thing. After 210 days of waiting, Odie has found his lasting forever, where he can rule his very own kingdom! He's already settling in, exploring the house, and seeming much more at ease. Congratulations Odie, you will be missed but better than that, you will be so dearly loved!
Hi there, the name's Odie! I am a sweet-tempered older gentleman looking for a cozy home to live out my golden years. I ended up at the SPCA after my owner sadly passed away. I was his whole world, and he was mine, so I have been feeling the loss. But, I'm trying to stay positive that there's another great home out there for me, that will help me to feel loved and cherished once again. I think I'd thrive in a quieter home where our primary activities are kicking back on the sofa, watching TV, and birdwatching. I have my moments of energy, but for the most part I'm a laid-back, relaxed kind of guy. Although timid upon first meeting, I'm a very sweet boy who loves nuzzling into hands and getting chin scratches. I bet I'd be a lap cat for the right person! I'm not overly playful, but some exercise in my life would probably be good for me as I'm pretty plump! I still have lots of life left to live, so I'm ready to move onto the next chapter, which I sure hope comes with lots of attention, snuggles, and snacks!

Dog-friendly: Untested, likely yes with slow introductions
Cat-friendly: Untested, likely yes with slow introductions
Kid-friendly: Untested, quiet older kids likely okay
Do I Need Special Care?: I have a mild heart murmur, caused by Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. I had an echocardiogram and full cardiac workup to determine the best course of treatment, and at this time my heart is functioning great, so there is no need for me to be on medications or have any special care at this time. Monitoring in the form of annual bloodwork and physical exams is recommended to ensure my heart continues to function normally. I can still live a full and healthy life despite this murmur, and at this time have no associated symptoms!
