About Abbey

We are pleased to announce that Abbey was adopted on May 2, 2025
In June 2024, Abbey arrived at our shelter. A feral kitty who had lived her life as a stray, Abbey had no experience with people and as such no reason to trust them. She spent her days hiding in corners and behind blankets, her fears growing anytime the room (or people) came into full view. We knew it would be a long journey to build trust with her, and that such a journey may not (as is the case with many ferals) lead to any real interaction with people. But, if we could decrease her fear of people even a little, then we knew we could give her a chance for a better life, in a safe home. After all, even feral cats deserve a loving place to call their own. Thanks to the commitment, dedication, and compassion of our volunteers, staff, and visitors to the Adoption Centre, we’ve been able to start to show Abbey that people can be trusted. One of our devoted Cat Team volunteers made huge progress with Abbey, spending countless hours with her until their relationship was such that he could pet her and she would even come out to give him a bit of grooming in turn! Abbey has come so far, and we are so proud of her! We know it is a challenge to welcome a feral into a home, and that there is something special that happens when a heart opens up to doing so: in accepting an animal as they are, and loving them regardless. Earlier in April, we received a call of genuine interest in Abbey: not just for her sweet face, but for her whole personality. A great discussion about what it means to adopt a feral cat led to a meeting with Abbey, and we are thrilled to say has now led to adoption! Abbey’s new family made the journey all the way from Edmonton just to meet her, and has made the journey again to take her home! With a mature feline companion to help her settle in, and a quiet home where she can experience the love of a family, we couldn’t be happier for this little gal! Congrats to Abbey and her new family! And a huge thank you to everyone who helped Abbey in her journey! We will miss her presence at the Centre.
Hey there, I'm Abbey, and aren't I just the cutest? I haven't had much exposure to people before, so I am still a skittish cat that isn't used to being pet or picked up. At the BVSPCA, I'm slowly learning to be brave, and while I've made some progress, I'm not yet ready to be touched or interacted with. I know that it will take an especially kind and patient person to take a chance on bringing me home, but I hope that there's someone out there so I can know what a home feels like! Right now, I'd be content to live amongst you, and I promise not to be a bother. I spend most of my time hiding, and am a quiet and clean cat. For now, the simple things in life like tasty food, a litterbox, and cozy spots to hide are enough for me. I think in the future, with some help from a gentle and patient home, I'll transform into an amazing companion, but for now I'll need someone to meet me where I am and show me that I'm safe.

Dog-friendly: Untested
